Breast implants can have a tremendous impact on your body shape and confidence. For many decades, breast implants have been improved for safety and augmentation techniques have evolved for better results. At pēkomd® cosmetic surgery center, our patients’ health and safety are top priorities. We offer breast implant illness treatment for those who may have symptoms related to their implants at our facility in Toledo, OH.
What Is Breast Implant Illness (BII)?
Breast implants are typically made from a silicone shell with either silicone gel or saline inside. There are many medical devices that are made from medical-grade silicone and inserted into the body. Breast implant illness, or BII, is a combination of symptoms that have affected a small percentage of patients with breast implants, but it is currently not a recognized medical disease. There is still much that is not known about BII – there are no tests to detect this condition, only a collection of possible symptoms which include:
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Breast pain
- Sleep disorders
- Depression or anxiety
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Brain fog or concentration issues
There are many other symptoms that have been linked to breast implant illness, but it varies greatly from patient to patient. These symptoms can also be due to other health concerns, which makes breast implant illness treatment difficult to perform.
Breast Implant Removal for BII
For patients who have severe symptoms of BII, the best treatment may be removal of the implants. However, this is not a proven remedy for every patient. It is possible to remove the implants and scar tissue in the breasts and still have symptoms of BII, especially if there are other health conditions contributing to the symptoms.
Dr. Peter Koltz is a highly respected plastic surgeon. He is an ABPS board certified surgeon with a tremendous reputation for his patient-centric care and phenomenal results.
