YES! There are many clinical trials that support the effectiveness of this medication for weight loss. Like any other treatments, results may vary.
In short, it stimulates your pancreas to use insulin more efficiently, aiding in energy expenditure. Additionally, it slows the rate of GI motility, suppressing your appetite and cravings.
Most common side effects are GI related such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation or vomiting. However, most people report these side effects are short term and become less frequent or completely resolve with continued use as the body adjusts.
Although individual results may vary, weight loss is generally seen within the first week of initiation of treatment and lifestyle changes. More effective weight loss is typically seen as your dose trends up.
It is essentially up to you on how long you decide to remain on the injections, but it is safe to remain on them forever, if your lifestyle cannot be improved or you need extra support. It is important to know if you stop the medication, you may have rebound weight gain - studies have shown up to 2/3 of previous weight loss is regained with withdrawal of treatment.
Typically, no. Most insurance companies are not covering the drug, so through Peko your medication would be self-pay. We do offer several payment options to help with the burden of financial costs and would be happy to provide further information on the payment options we offer! However, if you have an HSA account, this may potentially be an additional option.
No, there is not a contract. For best results we highly recommend weekly check in messages with our pekomd staff and tracking your progress.
That’s a difficult question to answer because — well — we don’t know anything about those products and how they’re being formulated (or where they’re coming from). However, our once-weekly injection is managed through our accredited surgical center, and backed by Dr. Koltz, who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which means we know we are only supplying the best for our patients. Moreover, Matthew Fourman, MD, FACS, FASMBS is the director of our weight management program here at pekomd. Dr. Fourman is a board-certified general surgeon who has performed over 2,000 bariatric surgical procedures during the past 10 years of practice, and he’s a member of the American Society of Bariatric Training, with a special interest in nutrition and wellness. This, partnered with the knowledge of our clinical staff, makes us an outstanding option for anyone looking to lose weight with a trusted product and supportive team.
The medication is safe to continue up to 1 week prior to your surgery and restart 1 week following. Just keep in mind, with this medication, your appetite will be suppressed, so it is important you are still getting enough protein intake to help with surgical healing. Keep in mind you should be getting at least 60 grams of protein daily, so be mindful when you do eat that you are making healthy decisions and incorporating enough protein into your diet.
