How To Prepare For Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery is a relatively minor but intricate procedure, which can dramatically improve your facial balance and overall appearance of your face. Thorough preparation for the surgery and recovery is vital to achieving safe and predictable outcomes with nose surgery.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Koltz provides rhinoplasty to patients in Toledo, Maumee, Northwest Ohio; Southeastern Michigan, and surrounding communities.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

You should begin consuming a well-balanced and healthy diet a few weeks before the schedule nose job procedure. Fruits, vegetables, grains, and lean proteins will provide the nutrition necessary for strengthening your immunity. The right diet can also help in reducing the risk of infection and supporting recovery. You should ask your doctor about taking nutritional supplements for getting the minerals and vitamins you require.

Know What to Avoid

There are certain herbal supplements, food and medications that can create complications during the nose reshaping plastic surgery procedure and slow down your healing process. You should ask your treatment provider about the supplements that you need to stop.

Generally, gingko, ginseng, vitamin E, ginger, and other homeopathic or herbal supplements are not recommended. Alcohol hampers the liver function which can cause complications. Your doctor would ask you to stop drinking for a few weeks before and after the nose job.

Quit Smoking

Tobacco slows down blood flow in the body and doesn’t allow oxygen to reach the incision site in time. This can place your body at a greater risk of infection and scarring. While smokers are not prohibited from getting rhinoplasty, they are required to stop smoking for at least two weeks before and after the procedure.

Advice on Medications

You should inform the surgeon about all prescription and non-prescription medications you are on during the initial consultation. They will advise you on the medications that need to be temporarily stopped.

In general, patients are taken off blood thinners, aspirin, and ibuprofen for a few weeks before and after the surgery. If any adjustments are required to your prescription meds schedule, your surgeon may do it in consultation with the prescribing physician.

After-care Preparations

Rhinoplasty can be performed in a licensed ambulatory surgical center, office-based surgical facility, and hospital. You should be sure to arrange for someone to drive you back from the surgery and spend the night with you.

It can take a few weeks to completely recover from a nose job. You would need to make adequate preparations for taking time off work. It can be difficult to chew for a few weeks after the procedure. You should purchase enough soft foods to last a few days.

Surgery Day Instructions

You should get enough rest the night before the rhinoplasty. Don’t eat or drink anything after midnight. Wash your hair and face before going to the hospital to reduce the risk of infection. Don’t apply any cosmetic on your face.

These measures are useful in helping patients prepare for a rhinoplasty surgery. You should also keep your mind calm and create a positive outlook. This helps with recovery too. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Peter Koltz receives patients from Toledo, Maumee, Northwest Ohio; Southeastern Michigan, and nearby areas for nose job.
