While there are ways to minimize scarring, any wound to the skin will produce scar tissue. If you have a surgical scar that is raised (hypertrophic) or indented (atrophic), it can be noticeable. There are ways to reduce the appearance of surgical scars with minimally-invasive skin treatments. At pēkomd® cosmetic surgery and rejuvenation center, we offer skin treatment for surgical scars at our clinic in Toledo, OH.
Noticeable surgical scars often occur due to collagen issues during skin repair. If there is not enough collagen produced, the scar may be indented, creating a dip in the skin. If too much collagen is produced, there may be excess scar tissue that is raised above the skin. Neither option is desirable – flat scars are preferable and less noticeable. To reduce the appearance of a dark, indented or raised surgical scar, laser skin treatments are often the best solution.
