What Is Breast Revision?

Breast revision is a surgical procedure that modifies or corrects the results of a previous breast surgery, typically breast augmentation with implants. This can involve replacing or removing implants, fixing complications such as capsular contracture or ruptures, addressing aesthetic imbalances, and more. The goal is to resolve any issues and refine the appearance or feel of the breasts in a way that meets your evolving needs.

At pēkomd®, our board-certified providers collaborate with you to devise a revision plan that respects both your health and your personal vision. We're committed to helping you feel at ease—knowing each decision is informed by clear guidance, honest communication, and advanced surgical techniques.

Types of Breast Revision

Breast revision surgery can address a range of concerns. Below are some of the more common reasons patients seek a second procedure.

Breast Implant Illness Treatment

Although relatively rare, certain symptoms—like fatigue, brain fog, or joint pain—have been collectively referred to as breast implant illness. If you suspect implant-related health issues, our surgeons can remove or replace your implants and perform a capsulectomy if necessary. We work diligently to rule out other causes and provide comprehensive care that prioritizes your overall wellness.

Breast Implant Rupture Repair

Both saline and silicone implants can rupture, leading to changes in shape, firmness, or volume. Revision surgery involves removing the damaged implant and placing a new one, if desired. In some cases, your surgeon may recommend additional procedures—such as adjusting the implant pocket—to achieve a more aesthetic result.

Capsular Contracture Treatment

Capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue forms a tight or thick capsule around an implant, causing hardness, distortion, or discomfort. During revision surgery, your surgeon can remove or release the scar tissue and replace the implant if necessary, reducing pain and restoring a more natural appearance to the breast.

Dr. Straka is very personable, professional, and earned my trust right away!

My daughter first had some work done a few years ago with Dr. Straka. Of course she was/is a beautiful girl in every way, but this definitely enhanced things for her. I inherited the worst bags you could ever imagine. Getting older I thought let me do something for me! I scheduled a consult and I am truly sad that I had not gone sooner.

Dr. Straka is very personable, professional, and earned my trust right away! I am only 10 days post op and I love my new look already! Cristina has been very attentive from day one. I am still being checked on today. Dr. Straka is doing great things at pekomd! I highly recommend him to anyone!!!!!!! He gets a 100 stars

I would say Dr. Markov is a bit of a perfectionist.

After learning I had breast cancer a second time in 2023 I opted to have a bilateral mastectomy with a DIEP flap reconstruction. I looked into 3 different doctors and while I am sure they are all very capable, I chose Dr. Markov. He was straight forward and to the point and he was local. I really liked his approach and he made me feel very comfortable. Today I had my 4 week post op appointment from the final phase of the reconstruction and I am thrilled with the results. I feel and look like myself again. Honestly they look better than they did before my mastectomy. I would say Dr. Markov is a bit of a perfectionist. The only thing left, if I opt to do this, is the tattooing. I am not sure if I am going to do that just yet, because they already look so good. Anyhow, I would 100 % recommend Dr. Markov.

What to Expect During Your Breast Revision Procedure at pēkomd®

Your revision journey starts with a detailed consultation, during which our board-certified providers will evaluate your existing implants, breast tissue, and surgical history. We'll talk openly about your symptoms, aesthetic preferences, and any functional concerns. This comprehensive approach helps us shape a plan that addresses the core issues—whether they're medical, aesthetic, or both. On the day of surgery, you'll arrive at our accredited facility, where patient safety and comfort guide each stage.

Anesthesia is typically administered to ensure a pain-free experience. Depending on your needs, your surgeon may remove or replace implants, perform capsulectomy (removal of scar tissue), and refine breast contours. In some cases, we might recommend a breast lift or fat transfer to optimize symmetry or shape. Once your revision is complete, you'll be moved to a monitored recovery area. Our caring team will provide detailed instructions on how to care for your incisions, manage discomfort, and support proper healing at home.

Recovering After Your Breast Revision Procedure

Your post-operative recovery will vary based on the extent of your revision. Most patients can expect some degree of swelling, bruising, and mild pain for the first week or two. We may recommend prescription or over-the-counter medications to manage discomfort, and a supportive surgical bra or compression garment can help stabilize the breasts as they heal. You'll likely need to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for several weeks, gradually reintroducing activities as your body recovers. Follow-up appointments at pēkomd® allow us to assess your progress, address concerns, and fine-tune your at-home care. It's essential to follow post-operative guidelines closely to minimize complications and promote an optimal outcome. Over time, as the swelling decreases, you'll see the refined shape, feel, and symmetry you'd hoped to achieve through revision surgery.

Are You an Ideal Candidate for Breast Revision?

A breast revision could be an excellent fit if you're unhappy with the results of a prior breast surgery or experiencing complications like implant rupture, capsular contracture, or concerns about implant illness. Potential candidates should be in stable overall health, hold realistic expectations, and commit to following pre- and postoperative instructions.

It's also important to discuss any future plans that could affect your results, such as pregnancy or weight fluctuations. During your consultation at pēkomd®, our board-certified providers will evaluate your anatomy, medical background, and specific issues. Breast Revision Frequently Asked Questions

Ready to address concerns from a previous breast procedure and reclaim your confidence? Contact pēkomd® to schedule a consultation and explore how breast revision surgery can help you achieve the look and comfort you deserve.

How soon can I have a breast revision after my initial surgery?

It's often recommended to wait at least six to twelve months after your initial breast surgery to allow tissues to heal and swelling to subside. However, this can vary based on individual circumstances.

Will insurance cover breast revision surgery?

Coverage depends on your provider and whether your revision is deemed medically necessary—such as addressing implant rupture or capsular contracture. Our team can assist with any required documentation or pre-approval.

Can I change implant types or sizes during my revision?

Absolutely. We'll discuss your options for silicone vs. saline, along with choosing a size or shape that aligns with your new aesthetic goals, during the consultation phase.

Is a breast lift often paired with breast revision?

Yes, especially if your breasts have begun to sag or lose volume over time. Combining revision with a breast lift can help you achieve a more complete rejuvenation.

How long should I expect my revision results to last?

While revision can correct current issues, the longevity of your results depends on factors like implant type, lifestyle, and natural aging processes. Regular check-ups can help monitor your breast health over time.
