Neuromodulators have changed the landscape of cosmetic treatments. Botox® was the first neuromodulator to be FDA-approved for cosmetic treatment, followed by other similar products. Xeomin® uses the same main ingredient as Botox, botulinum toxin type A, but with modifications to the formula. For some individuals, Xeomin may be the preferred neuromodulator for smoothing frown lines and other cosmetic treatment. At pēkomd cosmetic surgery and rejuvenation center, we offer Xeomin injections at our clinic in Toledo, OH.
Like other neuromodulators that use botulinum toxin type A, Xeomin affects muscle contractions by interrupting nerve signals. For dynamic lines like glabella lines (11s), this can smooth the skin by relaxing the muscle that causes these lines. Xeomin was FDA-approved for cosmetic treatment in 2010, and is used for frown line and other cosmetic treatments. It is considered a “naked” neuromodulator, since it does not have the same proteins included in the Botox formula. Due to its formulation, it can be a great alternative to Botox for some patients who have reactions to the proteins in Botox, or have built up a resistance to the desired effects.
Effective Frown Line Treatment
Xeomin injections are quick and comfortable, if you want to smooth frown lines on your brow. The procedure only takes 15-20 minutes, and you can resume your normal activities immediately after your appointment. You may have some slight swelling or bruising from the injections, but these effects quickly dissipate in the following days.
The muscle relaxation effect achieved from Xeomin takes a few days to occur. Once the targeted muscles stop contracting, you can begin to enjoy the benefits. Botulinum toxin type A effects last for about four months, sometimes less, sometimes longer, depending on the patient. Many of our patients have three or more Xeomin treatments a year to maintain the desired outcomes.
