How Long Until I Go Back To Work After A Tummy Tuck?

How Long Until I Go Back To Work After A Tummy Tuck?

How Long Until I Go Back To Work After A Tummy Tuck | Toledo Plastic SurgeryA large concern for patients wishing to undergo tummy tuck surgery is when they will be able to resume daily activities and return to work. Although healing time will vary depending on overall health and the extent of surgery, patients may expect to return to non-strenuous work in about 2-3 weeks following tummy tuck surgery. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will create a personalized surgical plan based on your desired results and will be able to give you a more accurate estimation of your recovery time. PekoMD Cosmetic Surgery, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Koltz, provides tummy tuck to patients in Toledo, Maumee, Northwest Ohio, Southeastern Michigan, and surrounding locations.

    Procedure

Tummy tuck surgery is a complex outpatient procedure that is done under general anesthesia. Your surgery will involve the removal of excess skin, tightening of abdominal muscles, creation of a new belly button, and having the skin tightly resecured into place. The surgical incisions will require a few weeks to completely heal.

    Returning to Work

After surgery, it is common for patients to have drains which can be removed within a week or two into recovery. Patients that have desk or office jobs should be able to return to work within two to three weeks, avoiding heavy lifting and extended periods of standing. Those with more physically demanding jobs will need to take more time off to recover to avoid reopening wounds. In any case, patients seeking tummy tuck surgery should expect to take a minimum of two weeks off work. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Koltz, provides tummy tuck to patients in Toledo, Maumee, Northwest Ohio, Southeastern Michigan, and surrounding locations.

    Saline Implants vs Silicone Implants

Saline Implants vs Silicone Implants | Toledo Ohio Plastic SurgeryChoosing whether to use saline or silicone implants is a major decision when considering breast augmentation. If you’re unsure where to start, you should schedule a consultation with your plastic surgeon to discuss your goals. During your consultation, your surgeon will explain the differences and the pros and cons between the two options and help you make an informed decision. PekoMD Cosmetic Surgery, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Koltz, provides breast augmentation to patients in Toledo, Maumee, Northwest Ohio, Southeastern Michigan, and surrounding locations.

    Texture and Feel

Saline and silicone breast implants each have a unique feel, with silicone having a softer, more natural touch. Saline implants appear natural, but are often “over-filled” and therefore firmer to the touch. Silicone gel feels more like natural fat in the breasts. In the case of an implant rupture, saline implants are safer since the solution is simply absorbed by the body.

    Appearance

Silicone implants are recommended for a more natural appearance, as they hang and have the same curvature as natural fat in the breast tissue would. Saline implants have a fuller, rounder appearance.

    Incisions

Silicone and saline breast implants require different incisions as they are often placed in different areas of the chest during surgery. Silicone implants come filled and require a larger incision to be inserted into the chest. Saline implants require a smaller incision, as they are only filled after they are placed into the chest.

    Result Longevity

Both saline and silicone breast implants last a similar amount of time. Although meant to be durable and lasting, both implant types will need to be replaced or removed over time.

    Rippling and Rupture

While uncommon, it is possible for a breast implant to rupture. When this occurs with silicone implants, the fluid may permeate the body and cause health issues. With saline implants, the saline solution is absorbed by the body and is therefore safer. Rippling of the implants may occur due to capsular contracture of use of incorrectly sized implants. In severe cases, rippling can be noticed on the surface of the skin. The risk of implant rippling is equal with the use of either saline or silicone implants.
